"This course is designed specifically for people who do not have formal health care training and work in a congregate living environment. It will provide learners with the IPAC knowledge they need to keep themselves, their clients and their co-workers safe from infections in workplaces like shelters, group homes, residential treatment centres and other facilities. Participants will learn how to conduct a risk assessment, perform proper hand hygiene, when and how to use personal protective equipment safely, the basics of administrative and environmental infection control measures, and best practices for outbreak management."

Though often invisible to the naked eye, infectious hazards can have a devastating impact on our health. Infectious hazards may exist in any type of workplace. It is everyone’s responsibility (e.g. employer, supervisor and worker) to recognize and control these hazards with the same diligence as other workplace health and safety hazards.

Enhanced IPAC Knowledge

Contact tracing is a powerful public health tool to help stop the spread of an infectious disease. This learning path was created for individuals and teams conducting or supporting contact tracing activities in Canada. The MDRAO Medical Device Reprocessing Techniques Online Course provides information to support Medical Device Reprocessing staff members in their work in the field of reprocessing.


The information required by staff to ensure their safety and the patient’s safety within healthcare organizations is expanding, as new antibiotic resistant micro-organisms become more prevalent in our society.


Staff require in depth understanding of the principles of decontamination, assembly and sterilization to function effectively, to reduce risk to themselves and the patients. They need to have a basis for critical decision-making when unusual incidents occur.

Medical Device Reprocessing is a unique Ontario College Certificate program that combines theory, lab practice, simulation and hands-on experience.

This one-year program prepares you to apply principles of infection prevention and proper handling of reusable patient care equipment in healthcare settings.

Medical Device Reprocessing technicians are responsible for sterile supplies, equipment and instruments in health care facilities.

Through a combination of theory and hands-on practice, in this specialized program you will learn proper sterilization, cleaning, remanufacturing, testing, packaging and labelling of medical devices to function in a Medical Device Reprocessing Department.

This in-class, theory and practical based program focuses on sterilization, preparation and storage of medical equipment, instruments and supplies.

Students will learn critical techniques in safe handling of instrumentation, infection control and aseptic techniques. Students will be introduced to sterile processing techniques in practical sessions throughout the program. There is also an optional field placement at the completion of the program.

This program blends theory with hands on application of theoretical principles delivered through course work and a 150 hour field placement.  Students will acquire the knowledge and skills for career opportunities in hospitals, surgical centres and health care settings related to the sterilization, preparation and storage of equipment, instruments and supplies.  Students will learn critical techniques in safe handling instrumentation, infection control and aseptic techniques.

This online educational course offers any Infectious Diseases practitioner an opportunity to learn the basics of healthcare epidemiology, infection control and antimicrobial stewardship.
